Don’t Forget to Pin Your Next Trip

I attended a salsa dancing event in Miami over the weekend. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I didn't post much…

I've been to Miami before and plan to go back, so I didn't feel like posting a ton.

And…

I felt the urge to take a break and disconnect.

This post is a short one but full of gold! So pay attention or you may miss it!

Traveling with other people can be cool because of the bonding and camaraderie.

But, there's another personal reason for me.

I enjoy traveling with others because I get to see how they travel!

There are things I do that I take for granted and that can help other people. And helping other people improve their traveling skills makes me happy!

While traveling with a salsa buddy in Miami, he noticed how I used Google Maps to coordinate my trip. He was amazed and I was shocked that I didn’t write about this sooner.

Google Maps has an interesting feature that allows you to pin or label a destination. Using pins is one of the core ways I plan my trips. When I'm at a location, I have pins for all my main activities, like:

  • Luggage symbol🧳: Main attractions I need to see

  • Green: Optional travel activities

  • Heart: Home base or remote working location

  • Blue: Restaurants and bars

Here's a map of my trip to Montreal:

I know this map may seem overwhelming, but I'm just intense (your map shouldn’t look like this).🤣

Basically, I have a customized list of items that I’d like to see and I mark them in Google Maps.

The value of this is that you can clearly see restaurants, activities, and other places that are in proximity to each other. This can help you put together a travel itinerary.

Additionally, when you revisit the city, all of your notes remain on the map. When I went back to Miami, I didn't need to do any trip planning because all the information was already there.

Give it a try and let me know how this works for you.

Andrew
